Epping councillor says decision is 'terr
This is terrible news for our community
here in Epin. And I think the most
disappointing thing of the whole trial
was when the Home Office solicitors said
that the rights of asylum seekers
essentially trump the rights of local
people. So it's an incredibly
frustrating result, but actually as a as
a district council, we will continue to
fight on.
>> We've seen uh real tension in recent
days. We've seen people gathering
outside the hotel this evening. What's
your message to them?
>> It's really important that we stay calm.
It's really important that we remain
peaceful and fight this in a democratic
and decent way. As a council, we will
continue to use all democratic means and
legal means available to us. And I would
encourage local people. I understand the
frustrations and the anger that people
feel with the the decision today, but we
need to do this democratically.
>> Do you agree with what Nigel Faraj has
said today? Illegal migrants have more
rights than the British people under
starmmer. The statements made by the
home secretary's lawyers were
disgraceful. To incite the human rights
act, essentially weaponize it against
British people, I think was disgrace. It
was disgusting. So, you know, I can see
uh where he's coming from with that
point. And it's really important that
actually the government take the side of
British people. They take the side of
communities like mine in Eping who have
suffered as a result of this policy.
